1 cor 8:1-11:1
Can I? That can be a tough question to answer, especially, when it is dealing with an issue that the Bible doesn't directly address. In this week's sermon we look at 1 Corinthians 8-11:1 and how Christians should make decisions involving the "grey areas" of life. We trace Paul's argument in this section and how he counsels the Corinthian church when it comes to Christian freedom, grey areas, and the gospel.

1 cor 9:24-10:13
The Christian life is a race that must be run well. Unfortunately, the unwise use of our Christian freedoms and rights not only hinders others but it can hinder our own relationship with the Lord. In this week's sermon we are encouraged to be disciplined and run the race well.

1 cor 9:19-23 gospel contextualization
As a Christian, what does it mean to be free?

In 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 Paul explains that freedom means that we are free to go to the world and adapt to them so that we might faithfully and effectively share the gospel with them. In other words, we are free to follow the example of Jesus who came into this world and was a friend of sinners.

1 cor 9:1-18 rights and freedoms
In this week's sermon from 1 Corinthians 9:1-18 we learn that although Paul has certain rights as an apostle he willingly surrenders those rights for the advancement of the gospel and to demonstrate his willingness to serve. He explains all of this in order to provide a Christ-like example for Christians to follow. What about you? Are you willing to follow Paul's selfless example for the sake of the gospel advancing?

Christian Conduct & The Gospel (1 Corinthians 8)

8/6/2014

1 corinthians 8
The Christians in Corinth are wrestling with how to live faithfully as Christians in a society that was full of idols. The specific issue they were wrestling with is whether they could eat meat that had been sacrificed to idols. Some Christians believed they could while others believed they could not.

Paul will come out and explain that they cannot go to idol temples in chapter 10 (1 Cor. 10:14-22). But in chapter 8 he approaches the issue from a different angle. He wants them to understand that a knowledge of God’s Word is crucial but knowledge alone is not enough. Christian conduct and their decisions about these issues must be based on love for others.

2. How do you know if you are gifted and called to be single?
3. What is the purpose of singleness?

Remain as You Are (1 Corinthians 7:1-40)

1 cor 7 remain as you are
Getting married or remaining single are both great options for life. In fact, Paul says that both are gracious gifts of God (1 Cor. 7:6). Unfortunately neither can satisfy, fulfill, or give a person ultimate significance in life. Only Jesus can do that. In 1 Corinthians 7 Paul us that the present form of this world is passing away so we shouldn't be defined or controlled by the temporal things of this world (like one's marital status!).
